sorry, forgot about this issue--OK, went back and read everything and this is a puzzler. I cannot decide which way to go.

First, nothin in your log screams "I am causing this problem" so let's not worry about it for now.

First, since we have eliminated your ISP dns, you can remove open dns and go back to your normal settings.

Now, the fact all is good when the desktop is connected directly has to mean something and while the MAC address seems like a long shot to me, lets copy the mac down and insert it into your router in the MAC address setting on the WAN setup page you showed us earlier.

Here's another possible issue. You have your MTU set to 1500, which is preferred for cable, but what is your ISP (dsl or cable). If your connection is DSL, chance the MTU to 1492 to account for the overhead of PPPoE (point to point protocal over ethernet).

It is interesting that you've updated your router settings and I wonder who set it up originally? Someone familir with the network might have altered the MTU settings so they would work better than the default 1500.

 

This problem has all of a sudden just corrected itself without me changing any settings and everything is working perfect again, can i put this down to an ISP problem and deffinately not a router problem ?

If its been an ISP problem all along then i won`t be happy as its cost me a fortune on phone bills rining my ISP which isn`t free and also rining D-Link support which isn`t cheap either, i`m not an expert but i wouldn`t say its been a router problem with things suddenly staring working again without me changing anything.

 

Unfortunately, no. It could very well be a potential physical problem with the router that may manifest itself again in the future (sorry to be such a wet blanket). It could be something just like that annoying noise coming from under your car that you just can never reproduce when you've got the mechanic standing there looking at you like you're going bonkers and hearing things.

 

Why do you say it could be a problem with the router, surely if it was a router problem then it wouldn`t just come right of its own accord just like it would do if your ISP has been doing an upgrade as an example for a known issue that they havn`t wanted to tell people about and in the meantime we suffered ?

 

Since the behavior was erratic--sometimes working on one system but not the other, or both, but not at the same time, I am far more inclined to think your ISP is using a proxy server (to cut down on bandwidth and that is the core of your probem--nothing on your end).

 

Depending on what the problem was, it very well could come right of its own accord; for example, a short circuit caused by a crack in the underlying PCB could come and go as the PCB expanded or contracted depending on the ambient temperature.

Nonetheless, my point wasn't that it necessarily was a problem with the router, just that such a problem couldn't be completely excluded.

That being said, I'd go with Gerryf19's diagnosis, he knows a lot more about these problems than I do.
