I have an older acer netbook, and its running xp. I want to load 7 starter on it, can you buy it or is it just a loaded only deal?

As far as I know you can't buy Windows 7 Starter Edition, however, if you take a look on eBay, you might be able to find it there.

AFAIK Starter 7 only comes as a 32-bit OEM flavor ie to be installed on a new machine although IIRC it is also on the other W7 retail/FPP disks (32-bit). Anyway, I would think legally you can not unless it's a new machine and you become the OEM. Ask MS if you want to be sure of doing the right thing. FWIW you might find the '3 open apps max' could be a bit annoying.

That limit was removed before the final release.

However, Starter is still very limiting. Just get Home Premium Upgrade. There's no legal way to obtain a non-OEM copy of Starter outside of "underdeveloped" markets. Contrary to popular belief, Starter does not run better on netbooks than other editions of Windows 7. The only reason it's on netbooks at all is to keep the price a little lower.

When i was toying with the idea of using W7 starter to save space on my SSD , I found a hack to enable Aero and so you can change the Wallpaper , though you would haver to search the net to find them.

Either way, the fact remains that it can't be purchased as a standalone product at retail, and I doubt that buying a copy on Ebay will save you much money. Might as well just buy the uncrippled Home Premium, rather than trying to half-uncripple Starter.

If it can't, then you're screwed no matter what. Either all versions can run, or none can.

    And yes, run the advisor.
