What's wrong with Windows Update? When I tried to check for update with XP SP3, I got an error message: Error 403, access denied. At first I thought there was something wrong with my computer so I restored my hard drive with image that I know for sure works with Windows Update and that didn't work either. No problem with Vista, though.

Any updates for the "update client"? that's the only thing that springs to my mind...

I don't remember if I installed update client. I can't access windows update history. I got an error message that said: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.

    Hmm...

I was thinking that maybe they changed something, something, the same way that "windows update" on Vista is now the same as on Win7.

Or they are updating something and the site is temporarily down....

Otherwise I have no idea - if this is still a problem tomorrow I could call my grandfather and use TeamViewer (he has one of our old notebooks that uses XP) to check...

But its uni now for me... when I get home I'll possibly be rather tired too :( So that would take a while.

In internet options, run through the tabs and hit the DEFAULT settings button on each tab, then apply and try again

    edit--wait a sec. you re-imaged?

Can you do a screen shot of the error?

OK... just checking from my grandfather's laptop in Germany - pretty much 17.00GMT - it works fine, with one update showing...

    Just to let you know.
