64-bit. I just got my new HP HDX16T and have been uninstalling all the crapware on it from HP. My recycle bin is huge and it won't delete all the stuff.

Try download cCleaner and run it. Possible that the recycle bin contains some of the files from non-existent sources.

    cheers ...

I'm assuming you've tried restarting your computer?

Have you been deleting from an external device (hard drive or USB drive)? If you did and then unplugged it before emptying the recycle bin, it does happen that the recycle bin will show up as still containing items that can't be deleted until you plug the device back in or restart the computer.

Running CCleaner would also be a good idea.

Could you tell us what happens when you try to delete files in your recycle bin? Does a window pop up saying it's not working or what...? Are some of the files running while trying to delete them?
I don't know how to solve the problem but CCleaner seems as a really good idea. It automatically empties the recycle bin.

Corrupted recycle bin, probably. Try this

    Start > run, type
    cmd

When the cmd appears atop the start/search menu, right click, and choose
    RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR

    type
    rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin
    press Enter

If you have multiple drives, repeat, substituting your other drive letters for C

    Close command prompt window.

Right click on a empty area of the desktop and click on Refresh

    It should be empty now
