Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit retail---HP Pavillion dv9700 notebook---HP Optical mouse worked before I uninstalled a program, but it stopped afterwards. No driver detected & none found from within my computer or from HP who says it's no longer supplied.

Bought a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000, but, even with its software installed the message says that he driver was not successfully installed. Restored system to a few days earlier, but got the same results. Am using finger touch pad now. Also noted sudden really slow page loading.

Virus & spyware check clean. Also clean per Microsoft's latest Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Re-booted with Win 7 disc and clicked Repair Startup, but no help there either. All data backed up, but I'd hate to have to wipe disc & do clean install.

    Any suggestions

first thing I'd try is to delete all mouse and trackpad related software and start over.

are you ever going to use the hp mouse again? If no, don't bother with the hp software. if your track pad works as needed without the extra software, don't bother installing it.

make sure that you have the most current (and correct for your OS) version of Microsoft Intellipoint on hand. Intellipoint is the common software for all Microsoft pointing devices. Again, with Win7 you may not need it. The OS might have the basic drivers for the wireless dongle already available.

But get your machine back to a neutral state first. Then get the internal hardware, the trackpad, working as needed. then worry about the msft mouse.

Probably won't use the HP mouse on this machine again. Have most recent Intellipoint (7.1). will try your suggestion. Thanks
