So you go to right click on your desktop, and you can't open Personalize?

What version of Vista do you use? What did you do yesterday (add/remove programs, install/remove hardware, change drivers, Vista crash, etc)?

I'm having the same problem and I didn't install anything between the time it was working fine and now. It first started this morning when the Control Panel window did open but it was empty, trying to switch between views did nothing. I then restarted the laptop and now the Control Panel window won't even stay open. I have an HP laptop with a clean Vista installation.

The common thread is the software licensing service not behaving properly on machines with nVidia video cards.

Hi, i assume your problem hasn't been fixed yet.

    1.Go to Run> Type services.msc & hit enter.
    2. Check if 'Microsoft Software Licensing Service' is enabled. If it is STOPPED then Right click on it & START it.

    I had similar problem.

If this doesnt fix your problem then let me know.
