what gives? I have set my upload to a maximum of 6 kb/s only. So how come I can't browse the net at all? even though I'm downloading at 0kb/s or so (the downloads take alot of time to start)

What is your upload speed? If you are saturating your upload then the connection will suffer greatly.

This happens to me too. Anything uploading above 5kb/s and my internet crawls. I cap it at 2kb/ps when I surf. It's more lenient when downloading though.

    Approx. 1500kbps/400kbps here.

Hmm. I have a 200 kbps cap on upload yet still can surf the web when downloading multiple torrents. Then again, I have a 15 MBPS Down / 2 MBPS Up connection via wireless-g. Life is good. :D

I had this problem once (and it's a pretty well-known problem on µTorrent forum).

In my case, it caused by µTorrent established too many connections, and IIRC, Windows has limited number of connections it can make. So, if µTorrent uses them all, other programs cannot connect in or out.

I'd suggest you trying these solutions: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=258231#p258231. Also, try lowering maximum number of connections in µTorrent's preference.

Personally, I've always set Global number of connections to 70, and still get near full speed downloading (~220KB for 2Mb line).

it could also be your router leaving too many half-open connections waiting. I had this issue with the Linksys WRT54G before flashing to 3rd party firmware.

Just lower the number of allowed connections. It will help alot.

Try rebooting the router and see if it makes any difference, sometimes the router can get "stuck".

And try to check some forums for your router model.

You can also try 3rd party firmware, such as Tomato or DD-WRT.

If the above suggestions couldn't fix the problem, then get yourself a better router. Most home routers are not designed to handle heavy BT traffic. Do some research online and read user reviews, it will give you a good idea if a particular model can handle BT traffic.
