Im running windows vista and i have a folder on my desktop that i can't delete or move to another location which is really starting to me off. =/

Its the black square at the top right corner.

Any ideas on how to delete it? I tried using hijackthis but i could only delete files and not folders with it.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

What was the item originally? Is it one of the system folders? I ask because those need to be handled with care. If it isn't, can you right-click on the folder icon and pull up its properties dialogue? If you can, under the security tab, click on the "Advanced..." button at the bottom and see if you can take ownership of the file under your user name, and give yourself "full control" over the folder.

It is a desktop error? or really a folder there which can be click?
    Download Unlocker 1.8.7 install it.
With unlocker, you can delete whatever files in your computer even system files.

Unlocker may not work, at least not according to the discussion in this thread.

Its not a system folder. Its completely empty. I went to the security tab and i already have full control over the folder but no matter what i do i cant delete it. I can't even name the folder or anything.

Ill try unlocker 1.8.7 and see if it works.

Do you get an error message when you try to delete it? If so, what does it say?

Also, check in your event logs, particularly system and security, to see if anything gets logged there when you try to delete the item.

    Sounds like registry error too.
    Try Ccleaner? www.ccleaner.com

Have you tried Unlocker? You should give it a try at least.

Here's the easiest way to see if the event logs are catching anything. Try to delete the item again, note what the time is, and then go look in each of the different logs to see what, if anything, got logged at that time that might be relevant to the issue.

Have you tried enabling the administrator account, logging on as the administrator and attempting to delete the folder?

Here's how to enable the administrator account: http://lifehacker.com/341521/enable-vistas-administrator-account

When you are done, make sure to log back into your regular account and disable the administrator account.

Yes, as well as restarting and all that stuff.

Mr.Moo: The program didn't let me delete it unfortunately. I was so hopeful too. :(

Are there any programs that would somehow force windows to delete it?

    1. Click on the "Start" button in the lower left corner of the screen and select "Run."

    2. Type "cmd" into the run dialog box to open a new command-line interface window.

    3. Find the exact path of the file you want to delete and make note of it.

    4. Type "del c:\users\Lauren and Robert\Desktop\******* since there is no file name i don't know what to put" into the command-line interface, replacing "c:\path" with the exact file path of the file you want to delete.

    5. Press the "Enter" key to confirm the delete command. windows will now automatically delete the specified file, as long as it exists at the given

Ya it looks like you invested quite some time into installing programs. I guess format is not an option.

I had a file once in my downloads folder I couldn't delete - an instalation for American Army game. It was 3 gb. Some time ago, I formatted HDD and installed W7 and feel great.

if you run cmd, and then go to the desktop (cd "c:\users\yourname\desktop") and write "dir" to list all files and folders, how does the list look?

No, you are not the administrator. Follow the link I gave you. Unless you enabled the "administrator" account, and when you turn on your computer you type "administrator" as the user name, then you have not enabled the admin account and you are not the admin.
