OK looking for any possible help. I have a brand new laptop, AMD chip, running Vista 64 bit. I have an Officejet J4580 and the drivers will simply not install.

I tried using the Full Version, basic version, and corporate version, and every time during the install, the progress just stops -- no error message, etc.

i tried HP support -- All in One Support blames it on the PC , PC support blames it on the printer drivers.

I can install every other program on the system, so I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with the printer driver, but it does say its X64 compatible.

    PLEASE HELP!!!

Heres what you gotta make do:
    -Run it on administrator mode
    -Disable all security programs
-Run CCleaner or a registry cleaner
-Try running the setup in XP compatibility mode
-Try installing it in safe mode

Around what % does the installation stop?

The lower % bar never moves -- so its stuck at 0%.

how do I run it in XP Compatability mode? I tried in safe mode -- no go.

I disabled all security programs (Symantec) and even tried uninstalling it, and then running the setup program. I did run ccleaner and did the registry check on it.

    thanks

I see, right click the setup.exe or installation file > Properties. Look in the compatibility tab. Also tick run as administrator in this page.

    1) Tried running in XP Compatability mode. No dice
    2) Tried running as administrator (right click). No dice
    3) Tried downloading the "removal" utility for the driver and then reinstall, no dice.
    4) Tried Safe Mode. No dice.

Thanks for your help -- any other suggestions?

Can i ask if someone who has Vista x64 can try installing the package? I want to isolate the issue. I can install a whole bunch of other things, and I have installed this driver package onto a 32 bit vista , so not sure. thanks.

Try using the XP or Vista 32 driver package. Run it on compatibility mode if necessary.
