OK so I downgraded my laptop to XP from Vista, and that comes with WMP 9. I tried upgrading to WMP 11, but during the install, I get the following errors:

The error messages I get whilst trying to install are
    C:\programfiles\windows media player\wmpnetwk.exe is not a valid win32 application

    C:\programfiles\windows media player\wmpenc.exe is not a valid win32 application

    C:\programfiles\windows media player\wmpenc.exe is not a valid win32 application.

then the download closes. Does anybody have a solution to this? Googling and searching haven't yielded much, except for suggestions to reformat which I'm not about to do.

Now i can't even uninstall 11 and downgrade to 9, it says "you already have a newer version"...

Are you using SP2? All that comes to mind is that you're using the old version and that's why windows doesn't allow you to use wmp 11.

Try opening something via the shell extension.

Right click on a video or music and click "play in windows media player" to see if it works that way.

doing that - it says: "full file name path" is not a valid win32 application.

full file name path - it lists the full file path etc.

turn your AIM on if you can instead of going back and forth through this.
