Since I installed the K-Lite Codec Pack I can't open videos made with FRAPS anymore. Before I was using the latest version of CCCP and I could open them.
The version of K-Lite I am using is the latest 7.1.0 Mega version updated to 7.1.9 and the 4.6.0 version for 64 bit systems.
Of course I did google this probem and tried to fix it myself, I read about setting the Fraps format to libavcodec in the Codecs section, and I did this in ffdshow VFW interface, ffdshow VFW interface (x64), ffdshow video decoder and ffdshow video decoder (x64), but still didn't work. Tried also enabling a bunch of other options, reinstalling, going back to CCCP, nothing worked.
I want to upload some of those videos on youtube but I can't even watch them myself now.
This is the error message that I get when I try to open a FRAPS video:

Any chance that you blocked 'ffdshow video decoder' under 'External Filters' in MPC-HC options?
I suppose you could also try:
Enable the internal AVI splitter in Media Player Classic. See Options -> Internal Filters -> Source Filters.
*did this in ffdshow VFW interface, ffdshow VFW interface (x64), ffdshow video decoder and ffdshow video decoder (x64)*
Please note that x64 filters only work in 64-bit media player and same for 32-bit filters only work in 32-bit player. -
Hi namaiki, thanks for your reply.
In MPC-HC, under Options > External Filters, I did not have ffdshow Video Decoder in the list at all, I added it with the Add Filter button and enable it, but still nothing. Should I try adding all the other filters too? In fact, why are all of those filters not enabled already?
Under Options > Internal Filters > Source Filters instead, I don't have the internal AVI splitter at all, and I can't add it. The only unticked features I have in that field are DTS/AC3 and MPEG PS/TS/PVA, which is bolded. I don't really know what any of this stuff is to be honest. -
Alternatively, you could try... CCCP's MPC-HC or any of the MPC-HC builds off xvidvideo.ru. It seems that K-Lite's MPC-HC has a few of the internal filters removed. -
I just found a AVI Splitter as one of the external filters in the MPC options. Added it, enabled it, still nothing. About changing it, I can set the AVI Splitter to Prefer, Block or to Set merit, which has an editable value which currently is 00600000. I can move the filter up or down in the filter list. Right now it's the fifth, at the bottom. There are also other buttons "Add Media Type..." and "Add Sub Type..."
Anyway, K-Lite is not a program itself so it doesn't have any option settings per se. I did try installing back CCCP and also being without any codec pack at all, but it still didn't work.
I'll try adding other external filters in the MPC-HC options. -
You could also try Haali Media Splitter. -
Sorry, I just realised I edited the post after you quoted me. I just took away the pointless part. Anyway. I don't have a K-Lite application anywhere on my computer. It just installed me all the various codecs and MPC.
I tried adding ffdshow DXVA Video Decoder as external fiter, and that did nothing too. -
You could try uninstall everything, install CCCP and do a reset of settings and then enable FRAPS in ffdshow video configuration and then open the FRAPS video in the version of MPC-HC that CCCP has installed. This seemed to work for me, however my FRAPS video sample came up as follows:
edit: no DXVA decoder will be able to play FRAPS video.
edit2: by the way, we have finally released a new CCCP beta - Beta Testing Guide - CCCP -
Can I ask you how come CCCP is updated so rarely? I used CCCP for over a year, but at some point the codecs just got too old and I switched to K-Lite. Also, with CCCP I couldn't play some audio and video files, while with K-Lite I had no problems (well, ok, besides this FRAPS thing now).
Where did you get the FRAPS video sample? I think that if you're getting that error too with CCCP and your settings, then the problem must be somewhere else. I mean, I don't think going back to CCCP once again would help at this point. -
What I posted above is not an error. It is pin information. (I was able to play the linked sample without issue - perhaps you can as well)
K-Lite's settings application is called "Codec Tweak Tool." That said, I didn't have to enable/disable/change anything in that setup to play the linked FRAPS sample video. -
I can play the sample too. Thanks for being from CCCP and still helping me with K-Lite. I'm looking into the Codec Tweak Tool now. I've got a 32 and 64 bit versions.
EDIT: IT WORKS!!! So, what I did is open CodecTweakTool.exe (the 32 bit one), go to Manage DirectShow filters and I enabled two inactive filters.. now that they are enabled they don't appear where they were before anymore, so I'm not 100% sure of which ones they were, but one was AVI splitter (Haali) and the other Matroska splitter (Gabest). After hitting the Apply & Close button the 64 bit filters window appeared automatically and I enabled the same filters. I can play the videos now. Thanks a lot namaiki. I'll post a link after I upload these videos on youtube! -
So, thanks to the help of namaiki, I was able to upload this video here:
YouTube - Assassin's Creed II - Besides vag inas‏
Another one coming soon -
Uninstall K-Lite.
Run Filmerit to fix the problems K-Lite caused.
Reinstall CCCP.
Enjoy the best playback software on the internet. -
Uhm.. yeah, thanks, but it's all good now.
-
You probably had FRAPS disabled in ffdshow or when installing.

You fixed it already but I was just going to suggest installing FRAPS again since it uses its own codec. Installing it again may reset the change that was made to its codec.

I just had the same problem with FRAPS (and several other) videos which worked before. Except from MPC I also use Serif MoviePlus, which seems to use the same codecs and so it did not work as well.
My problem was in separately installed DivX codec, which have updated recently and probably messed the k-lite's default settings.
To fix it, I opened the Codec Tweak Tool > Codec and Filter Management > Preferred splitters (x32). Under AVI the was "DivX Demux Filter" selected so I changed it to Haali and now it works again. (LAV and Microsoft default splitters seems to works as well, there is only a problem with DivX's one).
Note: I know this is old thread, but it was first k-lite-related google answer for "can't play fraps video" so I hope this may help other people having problem with new DivX... -

Have you tried updating your MPC?
