I'm using VLC player to play a Bluray .mkv file. But the movie plays for a few seconds, then stops at a still image. Then plays another few seconds, and then stops again. Anyone know what I can do? My system specs are below.

Most likely the codecs .Try using K-lite mega codec pack. Ive watched a few .mkv files with it with no problems
It possible the file could be corrupt but unlikely -
Have you tried CCCP?
-
CCCP, and k-lite may fix the problem, i suggest you try the both, separately, and see what results you get, but instead of playing it with VLC, play it with Media player classic, which comes with the codec packs.
-
Since VLC created the MKV format it should play fine... Make sure your using the latest version and the file isn't corrupted.
-
Since when was this? Have any proof?
-
Use the K-ite Mega Codec Pack! Works here
It can play any quiktime file, real player file, any video! u name it! -
They're from the same guys, but it does not come with the codecs.
-
Have any links, or articles to prove it? What you're saying sounds true but i just want some solid proof.

.MKV files are x264 format... They created the x264 format... -
download and install COREAVC and you should be fine
-
This wiki doesn't seem to have the same info as that. Care to explain?

K-Lite codec pack doesn't work. It only has sounds but no picture. Will try the other ones later.

Dude this isn't some kind of argument...
According to that .MKV is simply a generic container like .AVI... OK... All HD content I've seen online in .MKV format (the only things i've seen in .MKV) is x264 encoded HD content...
As I said... And as the original poster asked... x264 is made by VLC's makers...
So just relax and understand that or go search and read on your own
I'm not here to argue what is the facts.

it does work here! -
Shadowfate Wala pa rin ako maisip e.
Maybe try usong different players.
not just VLC
Try media player classic or zoom player -

Weird... Where did you download it from? Also, which install options did you choose? Because I noticed that there are lots of options that you can check and uncheck when installing. -
try ffdshow bro

x264 movies should play in vlc without any codecs installed. if for some reason it isnt working, i highly recommend coreavc. it is hands down the best for decoding x264, and everything you'll need will be in one download. use mpc for playback, disable its internal x264 decoder and tell it to use coreavc's.
edit: If you are using defilerpak you may need to disable its H.264 decoder.
The default location from your start menu is start -> all programs -> Defilerpak -> video options -> configure video options. Then go down to H.264 and select disabled. -
I'm not arguing, i just want to learn. This is something new to me, so i'll just take your advise and go search up on my own. Thanks for the info.

What do I do with CoreAVC after I install it? There's no program I can run...

Alright, I installed CCCP, and now I can play the videos, but the pictures come out slower than how fast they should, but the sound is played at regular speed.
-
Pure Codec...it really plays EVERYTHING...however it isn't well known because it is developed by the Chinese...
Download
This is the latest version. If you trust it, go and try it. If not, just stay away.

Works now... But I had to install both CCCP and CoreAVC. -
That's exactly what you have to do. A filter pack, and an extra filter.
Can't play .mkv files
