    What's up, everyone!
Well, i had a virus some time ago that was most likely cause by me not using any anti-virus software and using our college's public labs. Got it most likely from my usb drive. This is what happens now when i try to access any one of my drives:

i can, however, pick explorer.exe from the windows folder and it will work until the next time i'll try to access them again. I can also use the pull-down menu from the top of the page and be able to get "in."
any suggestions on how i can go back to "normal" again?

    Thanks, guys,

    BiG_V

Make sure "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and "Show Known File Extensions" and "Show Operating System Files" are enabled in Folder options. Start>Control Panel>Folder Options.

Use explorer to browse to you C: drive and look for a file titled autorun.inf. If you have this file it is your problem and is usually installed by viri (viruses?) and spyware/malware.

You must delete the file. If you can't do it restart in safe mode and try. If that doesn't work you may have to use a command prompt to change the attributes of the file and then delete.

If you don't feel comfortable using the above methods you can try Disk Heal.

V, if it were me, I'd go with Lithus' suggestion and do the clean install. deputy's method might save any important data for you, though.

When you've cleaned your machine and got it back to how you prefer it, why don't you install a Linux distro, especially if you don't really like using an AV? If you don't use Linux for anything else, you can surf the Net with very little worry about malware. I suppose there's probably something out in the wild that could have an affect on Linux machines, but I'm not aware of anything. Also, I don't personally know of anyone who has ever had a malware problem while using Linux.

In any case, good luck with this.

thanx for the input, guys. i really don't wanna do clean install any time soon, but seeing that spring break is coming up, i might just do that.

@deputy, for some reason when i change the folder options to show hidden files it reverts itself and doesn't work.
@rob - linux, huh?! i don't even know what and how it works :(
@swarmer - too late, it's already been about a month like this hehe
