When I right click the Internet Explorer Icon it does not give me the option to run in administrator mode.

    Any Ideas?

If you have UAC enabled, IE is supposed to run in a reduced privileges mode for security reasons; thus running as admin is not possible.

yes but you are supposed to be able to right click on the IE icon and select "run as administrator". for some reason though i do not have that option.

I can run it as an administrator so you're supposed to be able to, unless I'm just special

I can right click on the IE icon to the right of my Start Menu (Vista Icon at the bottom left of screen, whatever it's called) and select Run as Administrator.

Actually, my IE keeps freezing, unless I run it as Administrator. This problem just started a couple of days ago, but being I use FireFox most of the time, I haven't bothered to figure out what's wrong. If anyone has suggestions, I'd love to hear 'em.

But you ARE right, I can run it in Administrator mode.

    http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/20...for-ie7-in-windows-vista-is-it-on-or-off.aspx

You wouldn't be able to run IE7 as admin if UAC were on, since that would circumvent UAC a little too easily. At least, that is the implied logic of the article, unless UAC can disable IE7's Protection Mode on the fly, which I doubt. Again, it would defeat UAC's design a little too easily. If that is the case, then its the dumbest design I've ever seen.

You know, if you're not sure about something, just say so... don't say "because thats how its supposed to work." Clearly thats not how it works for a lot of people.

I found this post here: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/31965093/uac-corrupted-in-sp1.aspx

It seems to completely contradict the previous article.

Same here. I am not sure it really does anything differently, but the option is there.

I don't mean to be rude but have you ever even used vista or do you just read about it?

You can without a doubt right click on the ie icon and select "run as administrator". I have done it many many time with UAC on. all of the sudden though, it doesn't give me the option.

Vostro Guy, I don't know why it's not letting you, but... I'm just curious... why do you want to do this? Are you trying to pick up viruses or something?

Pcpitstop.com requires that it be run in admin mode when you run the pc scan, full tests etc..

Where are you trying to do the right click???

Look at the two attached screen shots. In capture1.jpg when I right click I get no "run as ...". In Capture2.jpg, I do.

Is the user account you're using an admin account or a standard user account?
