I selected Windows Aero from the list of appearance options, then hit apply and exit.

but then when I go back to the appearance options I notice that it has reverted back to Vista Basic......what gives?

I am using a legit activated version of Vista Business FTW

Did you get your drivers from hp's website? My dv7 is running the ones from their website and it works fine.

Ok I just restarted and it has reverted back to Windows Aero.

Strange , dunno why it was stuck on Vista Basic appearance when I posted this thread. Oh well.

There are few reasons mate :D

    1. May be incompatible program might be running in the background which have disabled the Aero
    2. Aero might have disabled for some service

It might have been related to a power scheme. My Dell automatically disables aero when I go to power saver, and turns it back on for all other schemes.
