I just received my new Vaio EB and I am trying to uninstall Internet Explorer 9. According to guides online, I do this by going to the Add or Remove Programs window, clicking View Installed Updates in the left pane, and then finding "Windows Internet Explorer 9" under the "Microsoft Windows" section. However, on my computer there is no entry for IE9 anywhere on that list.

Does anyone know what's happening here?

Maybe it's named Microsoft Internet Explorer 9?? Just check again through the whole list

Another things you can do, since it was already integrated, you might wannt go to Programs and features, then go to Turn Windows Features On / Off and uninstall IE 8 or 9 from there if you find it then reboot.

There's nothing in the list that has anything to do with IE, unfortunately.

I already checked out the Turn Windows Features On/Off window. I could not find IE9 on the list, however, IE8 was. I unchecked that, but I haven't restarted the computer yet to see if it worked as I'm currently installing some of my other programs. After the restart I'll see if that worked to get rid of my IE9. Thanks.

If it doesn't work bro, you can try reinstalling IE 9 then uninstall it!

I hate the way they try to force you to use their browser :X

    First question...

If you just got the laptop and it's new, does it even have IE9 on it? IE9 does not come prepackaged with Win7, IIRC. If you had IE9 installed, then it would appear in the installed updates as Windows Internet Explorer 9.

If you do not have IE9 installed, as checked by opening IE > Help > About...
Then you may be actually trying to uninstall IE8 ("turn windows features on/off" from the Add or Remove Programs panel.

Though I respect your posts and opinions on quite a few things, I'm respectfully asking you to refrain from fanboy comments such as:

    "POS browser"

1 - MSFT does not force you to use IE
2 - IE8 may have sucked, but IE9 is a very good browser. It outperforms FF in some aspects and under performs in others.

That you may not like IE is completely your right to do so, but you simply cannot substantiate a claim that IE9 is a POS and therefore should not comment as such.

If memory serves correct, Internet Explorer is integral to Windows, and the only time it was absent was in European version due to anti-trust settlements.

You don't have to use IE9 but I'm not sure you can truly remove IE either.

My advice is just to pick a Mozilla browser or Chrome and forget about IE9.

Please just stop "bro"...your embarrassing yourself...

Now, the reason you are having difficulties is because you cannot uninstall it like your regular piece of software or your alternative browser ex: Firefox, Chrome, Opera. You don't see it in the "remove a program" section because its considered to be apart of the system therefore you have to hide it. However, I would personally not recommend you to remove IE because it can serve as your backup browser in case anything happens to your primary browser such as a virus redirecting you to a different site other than the one you want to go on. Or just constant crashes with the browser.
