    Hi,

My girlfriend has a Toshiba A70, and she bought a Sandisk Sansa M240 1GB MP3 player yesterday.

When we try to copy files from the computer to the MP3 player, we get an error that says "cannot copy file, parameter incorrect"

This is driving me crazy. We took it back to where we bought it, and they tried it, and could not get it to work. We then took it to a display computer they have, and it worked perfectly there.

What in the world is wrong with our computer?

Have you tried moving the files in the computer to another folder? eg from My Documents to the Desktop? and then to the MP3 player?

    Hi,

Yes, I tried them from the desktop, and I have also tried files from other folders. I even tried to copy a CD that my gf bought, that has its own folder.

Now I am getting an error that says "the file may not exist or may be in use by another program"

Does this happen when only moving mp3 files to the mp3 player? Have you tried moving other files such as a MS word files or something like that into it?

Sorry for all the Qs but I am trying to get as much info as possible. Anyway, other than music files, have you tried moving any other types of files such as a notpad files or even a shortcut from your desktop? Have you tried resetting you computer?

No need to be sorry about hellping me...haha.

I have only tried WMA and MP3 files, not any notepad stuff or a shortcut. I have not tried to reset my computer either, and to be honest, I have no idea what that does, or how to do it.

Try #1: Go to my computer and right click on the removable storage and tell me what file system it is. NTFS or FAT32? If somes like that apears with a circle with blue and purple sections, then the mp3 player is formated.

Try #2: Go to desktop, right click, go to new, click text document. just type test and save to desktop as test or w/e. Xopy that into the mp3 player to see if it copies.

Try #3: Instead of copy, try to cut the test into the mp3 player.

Try #4: If none of thoes work reset the computer. Ok to reset the computer, all you do is go to start on the bottem left had corner of the screen. A menu should pop-up and there should be a option on the bottom of the menu called Turn off computer. Then just click restart and the computer should restart.

Before you restart hit me with a reply.

OK, I went into properties, and it says "file type: FAT". It says 965mb free, 7.46mb used. The circle is all purple/pink of course.

I then made a document as you instructed, and it instantly copied over to the mp3 player. It worked when I dragged it, and when I cut it. It is in the folder when we plug the MP3 player into the computer, but it doesnt show up on the actual MP3 player when it is unplugged (I dont know if it should or not).

Well that shows that at least the MP3 player is working. And no it is not supposed to show up as the mp3 player only reads music files. Okay try this. Make a copy of all the songs you want to put into the mp3 player and put it in a folder somewhere on the desktop. That would serve as a backup in case something bad happens. Now get all the original mp3 files and cut it into the mp3 player. See what happens and reply.

Since you probably won't read this till tomorrow, I have a lingering question. Why did the display model work at the store? What was different about that computer? That would be the first thing I would have checked.

Maybe the player just needs a good formatting.

    Hi,

Thanks alot for helping me. I tried what you told me to, and it still didnt work. The machine just freezes, the program doesnt respond and I have to close it.

I am not sure what the difference was with the computer at future shop. It was a desktop with an AMD 64 3500+, but other than that I dont know much about it. They did use a different CD with some of the salesman's songs on it though.

I would try backing up the songs that are on there, and then re-formatting the unit. I'm assuming it has some type of hardware reset (to factory specs). Find out how to do that, and then do it. See if that makes a difference. You could try copying songs through WMP, and see if that works. I don't usually use drag and drop for mine.

Try what ttupa stated. Get everything important out of the mp3 player and reformat the mp3 player. I would assume to reformat to FAT32 as most removable starge is FAT32. Also what are the specifications of the PC/Laptop you are using? Have you tried restarting your PC?

I think the problems started when I uninstalled Limewire. Could that have something to do with it?

If so, it still doesnt make sense why I can't even copy a CD to it.

If, perhaps, there was a virus that jumped ship to your player, then yes maybe. Limewire = more trouble than it's worth.

Try a virus, spyware, adware, and hijack scan.
