Hey guys,
I recently uninstalled the bioshock demo in preparation for the installation of the full version. After uninstalling, the bioshock demo shortcut is still on my desktop. So i hit delete, but when i do, after the confirmation screen it says...
-----------------
"Item not found"
Could not find this item
This is no longer located in c:\Users\Public\Public Desktop. Verify the items location and try again.
-----------------
i searched "bioshock" in the vista search bar, but found no shortcut .lnk file anywhere.
What can i do? I dont want this icon to sit on my desktop forever

See if you can delete it in safe mode.

probably corrupted registry
try this, if the safemode is no go
start - run - cmd - "scanreg /restore" <enter>
restart afterward
cheers ... -
I had a similar problem with a shortcut just now. Seems the computer just hadn't caught up after uninstall.
Two things to try:
1. Restart computer -- icon might be gone.
2. Click on your desktop and press the F5 key.
I did option #2. Shortcut gone.
Best of luck. -
The F5 option works the best

Try Unlocker
Unlocker is an explorer extension that allows you with a simple right-click of the mouse on a file or folder to get rid of error message such as error...etc -
F5 just refreshes the display of the folder inside Windows, just like you'd refresh a web page. That's all that was needed... the desktop display was just out of sync with the filesystem.

Sorry to bump up such an old thread, but I also have this problem. I've tried everything in this thread. The icon is just a minor annoyance but it sure is bugging the hell out of me.

Right click the icon , Send To, Compressed Zip
Then you will get some error that it can not be done and the icon will go away.
Cannot delete shortcut
