I cannot get Windows 7 to install on a vostro 1500. it keeps saying that a required cd/dvd device driver is missing.

    Any suggestions?

you can try this if you have a big enough usb stick:

Note: Make sure your motherboard is capable of booting off a USB drive or this will not work. Also, backup any files on your USB drive because it will be formatted.

    1) Download the free UltraISO trial by clicking on this
    http://www.ezbsystems.com/ultraiso/download.htm

    2) Start UltraISO as administrator
    3) "Burn" the iso image to the USB stick by following these steps

    With UltraISO:
    - Open the image of Vista/Win7 with UltraISO
    - Under BOOTABLE tab choose WRITE DISK IMAGE
    - Choose your USB stick under "Disk Drive"
    - Choose a method (It's recommended to use USB-HDD+)
    - Press Write
    - Make sure to change your BOOT order in BIOS to boot from your USB drive first

    THAT IS ALL!!!

I have tried this and confirmed it works fine, other people have confirmed this works as well! So no need to burn the ISO to a DVD and waste a disc I'm sure you can use other programs then UltraISO as well to do this. Also, installing from a USB drive shaves a few minutes or so off the install time.

Good tip zfactor. Rep for you. I'm definitely trying this next time I rebuild my netbook (which I do quite often it seems) so as to avoid having to use an external DVD drive. Plus it's a good excuse to buy a couple or larger USB flash drives.

Or, you can just make your USB flash drive bootable, then use WinRAR to extract the ISO files to the USB. No third party software needed.

and if u find these things hard to do u can check ur dvd drive if it works for any other dvd (except the 7) if it does not u can jst update ur dvd driver software
by going to device manager.jst right click on computer in start menu and click poperties u will find device manager there then on the list expand dvd/cd rom devices and right click and see properties and click update driver.

Did you actually restart the installation? If so, I'd try reburning the ISO at a slower speed.

I am having the same problem. I have a Vostro 1500 and I am trying to install the Windows 7 Professional x64 final build that I downloaded via MSDNAA. I'm getting the same error as described in the top of this thread. I also tried the bootable USB trick and I get the same error when booting from the USB. I tried re-burning and re-downloading the ISO with no success. I even changed my hardrive settings in the bios from AHCI back to ATA and that did nothing for me. I tried loading the x64 intel drivers for my motherboard when this error came up and thats not what it wanted either. Any help is greatly appreciated as there's nothing out there yet relating to this issue that I can find. With the error that comes up it seems as if it wants a driver for my DVD player but why would it want that if its already using it to load the setup?

Just figured I'd leave an update, I downloaded the ISO a third time and still same issues, so I figured I'd give it one more shot, this time via a hard wire instead of wireless, and voila new ISO installed like a charm, I'm writing this post with Windows 7 Pro right now (Loving it by the way). My recommendation to anyone having this sort of problem is make sure you got a good download, the ISO opened and burned without any errors even when I had a bad download.
