I installed Firefox and chose to make it my default browser.
I now want IE to be my default browser again and I don't manage.
I have WinXP IE6 with all the latest patches.

I went to IE>Tools>Internet Options>Programs> put a check in the box "IE should check whether it is the default browser.
    But it does absolutely nothing

What you did will only check if IE is your default browser the next time you open it. To make IE the default browser do the same thing but click the option "make default." it would make IE the default after that.

what version of IE you are using?

Go to Add/remove. Down left is an icon for default settings. Click it. there are three levels: Microsoft, non-Microsoft and special. Find where was set that Firefox was your default and change it to IE. That is it.

    Cheers,

    I am all set now.
I tried out your solution but could not implement it because I did not see any such option.
    I use IE6

Anyway, I am all set, and thanks for the help

What ikovac suggested is the other way of doing it.

well i thought you are using new IE7. It has the option i was telling you. TRY it. It's much better than IE6.

I wouldn't right now. Too many issues with it yet, as i had to do a reformat to fix it, after it wouldn't uninstall on my computer, and continous errors would pop up

Yeah, I don't usually try betas unless I really need them. I don't think I need IE7 at all at this point, so I'll wait for the official release

Good idea. I would not get IE7 Beta at all now, as to what it did to my notebook. The IE7 release should have this issue fixed, and ill try it again when it comes out. I did like the looks of it though. Kind of like FF almost, but still not as close to it.
