    Hi,
I am having this very annoying problem. Somehow I accidently created a desktop folder named programs. I delete this file from the desktop, but after restarting the computer it returns. I have tried deleting this file in safe mode, using shift +del. I cant figure out how to get rid of it, I think somehow its linked to the programs folder in the start menu, but I dont know I just want it gone. Oh, and the operating system is windows vista 32bit.
    Thank you,

Try renaming it and then deleting.

I have 3 Program folders on my notebook one in each of the following locations. I am not sure how these folders get created but maybe when you set up a new user.
Possibly you created a new user and the Programs folder ended up on the desktop. What are the contents of the folder?

Since these are system folders likely they cannot be deleted in the usual manner. I don't know the answer to your question but have given this information that it may help. The contents of the folder would be very helpful in determining what the folder is. For obvious reasons I am not going to try deleting one of my folders to see what happens :)

    c:\users\Your computer name\appdata\roaming\microsoft\windows\start menu\Programs
    c:\Users\Guest\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
    c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start menu\Programs

The Program folder in the c:\programdata... folder contain all the "All Programs" data from the start menu. This folder can be saved to different locations by selecting the "Location" tab within the properties of the folder. See attachment. If this is the folder in question select the "Restore Default" to put the folder back to where it belongs.
