It started with my desktop freezing.. and only my desktop.
Taskbar is still responsive.. as are all the open folders/apps.

It aroused suspicion so I started scanning with Windows Defender.. didnt find anything? LOL

So next thing I know every folder I click on through the Windows logo at the bottom left.. gives me this message:

When i try to enter the Control Panel i get:

    Help?

    Im running Win7 Ultimate 64bit.

And currently running Malwarebytes with the Symantec Online Security Scanner..

I want to reboot.. but am afraid this will kill my notebook. :(

Even the 'Show Desktop' shortcut wont do its job anymore now.

Try booting into safe mode and scanning for viruses and spyware, and also, if you don't find anything try using the windows disc to repair the installation.

I have a HP Dv6t, I came with no discs whatsoever and Windows Premium pre-installed.

I made 3 recovery DVD's upon receival. Im new to using the recovery option.

Will this mean I will lose everything?

    It's dead already...

That depends on what those recovery disks do. What you should do is boot the system from external media (your recovery disk set should allow you to do that, but I have no experience with HP at all, mind you), which would then allow you to copy your data off to an external drive. After that, your best bet is to wipe the system and re-install (which, again, those recovery disks should allow you to do). You may want to call HP tech support for help with this, but I don't know if they're any good. Definitely, with the kind of hole you are in now, do not rely on advice from strangers on an internet forum, such as this...

Thanks for the advice, I will rely on that when all else fails.

Tell me how youre so sure that its already dead & gone ?
And how do I prevent this from happening again?

Im pretty good with pc's and this just happened.. i didnt even install anything new.

Both scans just finished scanning.. 0 results.
I guess you are correct, it is beyond repair.

DAMNIT, how could this've happened.

Like I told you in my PM, search through your event logs to see if you can find some hints. You may want to take advantage of the options to filter the logs to only show (certain) errors or warnings. No guarantees, but very often you can draw some conclusions from the first time certain kinds of error messages appear, and what other programs were running at that time.
