It started with my desktop freezing.. and only my desktop.
Taskbar is still responsive.. as are all the open folders/apps.
It aroused suspicion so I started scanning with Windows Defender.. didnt find anything? LOL
So next thing I know every folder I click on through the Windows logo at the bottom left.. gives me this message:
![]()
When i try to enter the Control Panel i get:

Try booting into safe mode and scanning for viruses and spyware, and also, if you don't find anything try using the windows disc to repair the installation.

I have a HP Dv6t, I came with no discs whatsoever and Windows Premium pre-installed.
I made 3 recovery DVD's upon receival. Im new to using the recovery option.
Will this mean I will lose everything? -

Thanks for the advice, I will rely on that when all else fails.
Tell me how youre so sure that its already dead & gone ?
And how do I prevent this from happening again?
Im pretty good with pc's and this just happened.. i didnt even install anything new.
Both scans just finished scanning.. 0 results.
I guess you are correct, it is beyond repair.
DAMNIT, how could this've happened. -
Like I told you in my PM, search through your event logs to see if you can find some hints. You may want to take advantage of the options to filter the logs to only show (certain) errors or warnings. No guarantees, but very often you can draw some conclusions from the first time certain kinds of error messages appear, and what other programs were running at that time.
