Any time you insert a card, Windows does a quick diagnostic to see if the card meets these requirements:

    * The removable media's capacity must be at least 256 MB—250 MB after formatting. Windows Vista is limited to using 4GB; this restriction has been removed in Windows 7.
    * The device must have an access time of 1 ms or less.
    * The device must be capable of 2.5 MB/s read speeds for 4 KB random reads spread uniformly across the entire device, and 1.75 MB/s write speeds for 512 KB random writes spread uniformly across the device.

If it doesn't, then it cannot be used for Readyboost. On the otherhand, Readyboost is pretty much useless if you have 2 or more GB of RAM.

maybe it's a driver issue or something, because all of the cards i've tried have the option. I've tried a SD and three Memory Stick Pro Duo cards.

probably would get more help if this was in the windows section.

If you have 2GB of ram or more, use eboostr instead. Cache all of your icon/thumnail files, frequently accessed small files and your computer seem to be more responsive.
