I haven't really been paying much attention to posts about blu ray and, now that I'm finally getting a blu ray driver, search is letting me down big time. Do Dox 180.70 drivers break whql? Is there any way around this if they do? I found the following in another post:
1a) if you have Vista64 then you need to re-boot with driver signing disabled for the install, failure to do this will mean the drivers do not get installed correctly.
1) Download the newest drivers from laptop2go and also download the modded inf file
2) Unpack the drivers
3) rename the original supplied inf to a new name (xxxxx.inf2 works)
4) copy the modded inf file into the folder
5) install as normal but DO NOT REBOOT
6) delete the modded inf file from the folder
7) rename the old inf file back again
8) go to device manager and choose to update the display drivers manually
9) choose the option to pick the driver (don't let it search as it will not work)
10) Point it at the folder above
11) Choose the closest card to your current one (your one will not be shown, you may have to remove the tick from the selection box to see them)
12) Say YES to the "this driver is not for your hardware"
13) once done, reboot normally
It sounds a bit strange... does it really work?
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum... I figured a driver question would go under software.

Yes it really works (I have to say that really as I wrote it).
I use Blu-Ray on my G71V laptop, if I don't do the unsigned driver bit etc I get a warning from PowerDVD that it cannot play back encrypted content due to problems with driver signing. Once everything is installed correctly you dont need to use the unsigned driver bypass as the display driver will have the correctly signed inf file.
The G71V has a 9700GT card but when choosing the drivers for the 2nd bit I go for the 9800GT card as its the closest one (without going lower) to what I have.
If you don't want to go through all this mess then there are older laptop drivers now available from nVidia that can just be run to install. -
Is it possible to make this trick work on Dox's 180.70, which comes in a prepackaged installer? It extracts files to somewhere during installation but I can't figure out well, and there's no "original INF" to go on.

You don't have to change INF's with DOX's drivers, they are prepackaged into the installer.

So does that mean I can just use DOX's installer in driver signing disabled mode and it'll enable blu ray playback?
Catching up on Blu Ray
