I am thinking of getting a S-Series and the only thing that might stop me is the fan noise. I want the 6200 go for light gaming from time to time. I will use it in class a lot to take notes and this is a very quiet environment (can hear a pin drop), so i was wondering if anyone used this program. If not can someone try it and tell me if it can control (stop) the fan and its noise. Thank You

I don't know that one, but Speed Switch XP might help a little bit. If you're handy, you could also use something like Arctic silver on the CPU to help the heat move through more efficiently.

Thanks for the reply, i looked around on the forum for a good 4 hours yesterday reading about this problem. People have tried silver, and even under volting (which helps the battery alot) but it seems to be a problem with the cpu temperature threshold. Either a hack needs to be made or sony needs to put it in bios control (yea right). This sucks alot because noise (dont care about the heat problem to much) is the only thing keeping this from being perfect.

Not sure if you are aware of this, but Sony does allow you to slow down the fan. It actually has five speeds, and you can force it to only run at the slower speeds. Seems to work fine for me without the notebook getting any hotter.
You can set the speed under Control Panel, Power Options, or from Sony's own Vaio Control (whatever it's called). You can then select the max fan speed to any of those five speeds, and you can also adjust CPU speed for both AC and battery operation. -
Another useful programm of the same kind is RMClock.
If I am right, I have seen somewhere comments that SONY S-series was not working so well with those two above or one of them. I am not sure, though. Google should help. -
is CHC not compatible with the use of powergear at the same time?
i remember reading it somewhere..but forgot if this is true or not. -
PowerGear seems to override CHC as far as switching goes. The CPU will still be undervolted through CHC, but PowerGear will take over setting the CPU speed. CHC has much better dynamic switching options depending on load, which PowerGear doesn't do. Turn off PowerGear and let CHC handle everything -- my core temp dropped a few more degrees after I did that!

so, that means i can even uninstall powergear ?
-
Does the CHC compatible with the Asus M5n in terms of Fan control ?
coz it seems i cannot set the fan speed
thanks -
can I use it with ferrari 3400, it has a athlon
-
maybe soon..
-
What does the refresh button in the battery tab do?
-
Also, anyone know what the "Enable spin down" option in CHC does?
Is it better to have that option selected or not?
Thanks -
Since the CHC doesn't control everything I think Power4Gear does, such as automatic screen brightness settings, can you install both and just disable the aspects of Power4Gear that you want CHC to control, particularly CPU switching, or will that not work? I have an Asus Z70V. Thanks.

Someone knows if there is a program like CHC under Linux???
-
when will it finally work with athlon???
