    Hey guys.

I have a new laptop with vista and im really diggin it (especially after modifying it a little bit). I have a question though, is there a way to change the highlighting color? for example, if you're on ur desktop and u click and drag the box to select multiple files, the color is a light blue. the highlighting color also shows up as a light blue in windows explorer.

while the light blue color is noticable, I'd just prefer something a little bit darker and more prominent, maybe a navy blue or a orange/red color.

Is there a way to change this in vista? i've looked all around the personalize page (right click > personalize) but i can't find a setting anywhere where i can switch the coloring?

i realize its a minor quibble but it'd just be nice to be have something darker.

    thanks.

Actually, you can...at least in XP (it really must be the same, but I can't test now).

Find the display properties window, and the appearance tab. Click the Advanced button. On the dropdown for Item choose "Selected Items" then pick a color. It changes selecting text and some other things, but it does what you need.

If I understand what you want then yes there is a way to change the highlighted color when you click or drag an icon on the desktop or windows explorer (but there is a catch). Vista is very different from what you know in XP and the function is buried deep in the options but it is there. I should note that the following only works if you are using the color scheme of "windows classic" or "windows standard" if you are using aero you cannot make the following change and are stuck with the light blue.

Right click on the desktop and select the personalization option, then from there select the "window color and appearance option". Now this is the screen where you can turn aero on and off etc. You should see at the bottom of that menu something called open classic appearance properties this is what you want. A new window will pop up and then you need to click on "advanced..." Yet another window will pop up and all you have to do is on the drop down menu select "selected items" and change to what you want.
Remember this only works if you are not using the aero color scheme, so if you are using aero then you have to learn to live with light blue, I know it sucks but there is nothing you can do about it.

Thanks Evolution! I knew it was a possibility, but don't have a Vista machine to test it here at work. I know in XP you can change the selected item properties on any theme. For me, it's Royale Noir.
