    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any easy ways to change the character map for the keyboard? I would prefer a method that doesn't require a program to run permanently in the background...

The reason for this is because I bought my laptop in NZ (US keyboard), but study in the UK so miss the fact that there is no pound sign... With previous laptops I just changed the installed keyboard layout to the UK version, but this means that a lot of keys (ie @, ", ~, etc dont match up with whats shown on the keyboard. There must be a better way to do this, for example a way to create a custom keyboard layout (instead of US or UK).

    Any ideas anyone?

    Cheers in advance.

depending on your laptop's manufacturer, they may have alternate keyboard layouts that you can download. Try looking for alternate layouts, by accessing the european section of the support site if it exists.

    Hi,

If you like you could make your own Keyboard layout (based on the US) and chage ONLY the $ to £.

    Or use the alt codes.

    Kuba.

Sounds good to me (although I would probably swap a seldom used character like "|" to £. How would one go about doing this though?

    Cheers

    Have fun :)

I assume you know how to install and set a keyboard layout to be used.

    Kuba.

Brilliant! Out of curiosity, how did you create the custom layout? It seems like a skill that could come in handy quite a lot...
