What is the cheapest way to get MATLAB? A friend of mine needs it for a project in class but doesn't need it for much else, so doesn't want to spend much money if any. Thanks.

If you're in university in an engineering program, you might be able to get it from your school...

They are offering a student version, which is the full version of Matlab with no restrictions, for about a hundred bucks. The only other option is a trial version, but that will probably be crippled in some way.

There's always scilab (freeware), it's a little rough around the edges but gets the work done. If anyone is interested in trying it here's the link: http://www.scilab.org/

As mentioned, if he's a student he can get the Student Version for $100. I did that a few years ago.

Thanks. I don't think he wants to spend much. I don't know details of the project, but sounds like he won't use it for any other class that he knows of.

I do believe that any persistent discussion of piracy and/or license circumvention will earn a ban for a user.

I do believe this comment of yours is entirely spurious, and out of line. Nobody in this thread has mentioned anything that could even remotely be construed in such a manner. Until you felt compelled to add your post, that is.

the posts were most likely deleted.

i would stick with matlab over scilab and the other free alternatives. they aren't so great.
