The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Checking what parts where in your notebook during manufacturing

    A little something cool thought was worth mentioning :)

    Not a big deal really, but you can check your notebook for parts that where previously installed (might be a cpu, or hard drive, etc.) probably during the building phase, for testing or whatnot.

    This only works on a windows install from the factory - if you do a clean format you won't see this.

    Open command prompt (start, run, cmd) and type: Set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

    Open device manager and under view enable 'show hidden devices'.

    Go through some of the sections and you might see the 'ghost' state of various parts that where yanked out during testing. :)
