Hello fellas,
For the time being, I want to try the chrome forks & decided to nix the chrome due to its extremely high RAM hog and performance downgrade with a ton of loggers, bloat built into it tampering user Privacy.
Because of the faster browsing and smoother UX, I couldn't make a permanent shift to firefox, As I couldn't be satisfied when the speed matters against the chrome. Along with the new Australis UI & bloat It's going in a wrong path nowadays following all those commercial bigshot corps. (Google's Chrome) , unlike the older forefox aim was completely opposite direction, but but I'd give a try to the firefox's forks - Palemoon & CyberFox later..
So I'm steered towards the rather faster, open source , simple & secure Chromium itself (Portableapps version) rather than other chrome's forks.
I'm stuck on how to enable the Google Sync onto this browser...
As with the Chrome, It ships with all Google's APIs, but for the chromium the manual method must be done, So I've done everything necessary from this page - Chromium developer website
Found another link for simpler depiction of the above - Here
And As per the below attachment (help.txt) - rename it to htm for better viewing
It says - check in the spoiler below.
one of them is this
GoogleAPIKeys=<api key> :: <client id> :: <client secret>Access keys for the Google APIs. More details are available at the Chromium development website. Note that the delimiters [::] are surrounded by a single space on each side.
Did everything but can't make the sign-in work (says "Uh oh, service unavailable")
Chromium version - 45.0.2431.0 (latest)
Any ideas would be of much help...
Thanks !

Yeah this BS, but for chromium it seems to be fixed https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=500922#c39
and I disabled the mic on my system before hand as I never use it.

Sources?

When I open more n more tabs the ram usage ramps up and if I minimize them and run a game the CPU temp difference in multitasking can be clearly noticable with tabs and without them this was my experience atleast.
Gotta test chrome based ones as the background google functionality is absent on them & lessening the bloat thus resulting a low-usage footprint, The current chrome scenario looks awful when compared to the first years of chrome, it was fast light and low-mem footprint..Last edited: Jun 25, 2015 -
Chrome has always used more memory than other browsers - primarily because each tab is a separate instance of chrome (so when one crashes, the others don't). I don't care - I have 16 GB, so whatever (currently using 3.4 GB total).
I meant sources for "performance downgrade with a ton of loggers, bloat built into it tampering user Privacy."
FWIW, I am running Chrome Canary at the moment.Ashtrix likes this. -
As per the logging part I've read about the omnibox logging & send anonymous reports to google back..and a couple of news here and there, that hampers much at the client end as firefox users / supporting blogs claim the same. I made an approximation, but the latest news being (Voicesearch binary code) module downloads automatically into the browser, which can tap all voice input without prior user consent.

Dude, that's an EXTENSION, not chrome itself. Seems like you're making a mountain out of a molehill...

I know man it's just an extension, but whatever the chrome is not being simplistic, user concerned anymore. They just keep on pushing what they want, look at those issue report threads overflowing, the newtab page change from good to ugly..meh who needs another google search box again while omnibox is there. I use an extension for blank page, and the new bookmark manager making things ugly & complicated, only alternative is is to use flags but soon they will remove the option from flags as-usual.Last edited: Jun 26, 2015

It's unfortunate that you're having such a hard time with the browser - I am having none of those issues. Again, I am using Canary - maybe that's the difference? (I also use an extension that makes new tabs display art - the google art project, I think).

I don't know why the stable release is such a mess in features, used canary a couple of years back and felt unstable so using the stable builds since. Will give a shot to canary..
Well, found that extension, looks great now I can replace that dull blank page. Thanks
(But the permissions doesn't bode well with user privacy, straight from google one can expect the same)
Still unable to figure out that API issue...
