I have a Samsung series 9 (NP9004XC) and I am upgrading the 128gb SSD that came with the computer to a Crucial M4 256GB mSATA. I am doing a clean install from a bootable USB that I created from the recovery disc that was included with the computer.

I can load up setup but once I get to the part where I choose what disk I want to install it to I get an error. There is only one disk listed (Disk 0, Partition 1) and when I try to select that disk to install Windows to I get the error:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

I cannot not find anything in the BIOS that would help. Fast BIOS mode is disabled and AHCI mode is set to enabled.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you ever figured out why Windows would refuse to install on the M4 SSD? I just got my NP900x4c and I have the same Crucial M4 SSD. So far nothing I've tried got me past "where do you want to install windows?" screen. And on there it just says that my computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk.

So apparently, my problem was the SD-card reader that I was using with an SD card from my wife's camera. I've been using the same sd-card/reader combo since 2008 to load all PCs in my house. The same image that I tried to put on this laptop, I've installed on my development PC just a month ago.

The weird part is that even though there was something weird about the card reader, the laptop was still able to boot from it and begin windows installation.

The solution for me was to simply go to Best Buy and buy a normal 8gb usb drive. As soon as I used that, windows installed without any problems.

Were you able to determine whether the card or the card reader is bad?

Is the disk formatted as NTFS? And is your problem also with Windows 7, or a different version?
