Running on X200 and have deleted all partitions. When I install there isn't any option on choosing either 32- or 64-bit but when everything is done, it shows 32-bit. How do I get to 64-bit? Did I miss anything?
I am using an upgrade disc from Lenovo.

I think you have a 32bit upgrade disk, plus you may able be able to go 32 to 32 bit?

yeah, there is a 32bit disk and a 64bit disk. you might just download the 64bit disk in the "how to legally download windows 7" or how ever it's called.

I see. I suppose the product key would work for both options?

yes. and if it's an upgrade key, and it doesn't want to work for a clean installation, check this info:
Clean Install Windows 7 with Upgrade Media -
The upgrade key (student offer) worked perfectly for my 64-bit clean install.

great. well, it should. but if not, those tricks could help. so far, i haven't ever had need for such things, upgrades happen to work here for clean installations without problems, too.

dave, I didn't read your post properly

I have read through these tricks a couple of times, but I do not understand when they are required. I have performed a clean install of Windows 7 HP (x64) twice on my notebook. The first time I did it, I ran the "Custom install" route with my upgrade key, formatted the hard drive and wiped out Win 7 RC (x86). My upgrade key worked perfectly; not tricks required. The second time I did it, I ran the "Custom install" route with my upgrade key, formatted the hard drive and wiped out a badly configured Win 7 HP (x64). My upgrade key worked perfectly; not tricks required. I get the impression that I could install a completely fdisked, formatted new hard drive and still just use the "Custom install" route with my upgrade key.
When are these tricks required?

You CAN use the upgrade to install on a completely virgin new HD.
Some have reported being able to activate the first time on a newly formated drive but "most people" have to resort to one of the tricks to activate. I have no statistical information on my use of "most people" just knowledge reading many many posts on the issue. -

never needed the tricks myself. i mainly posted them here for the reference point. if you happen to have an issue once, you can use one of those tricks.
