I'm looking for any advice on getting a 'clean' install of XP Pro on a new Sony Vaio SZ. The laptop ships with the usual OEM XP OS on a disc that Sony bundles with tons of bloatware. The Sony OS CD also formats to FAT32.

I'd like to do a clean install of XP Pro in NTFS from a Microsoft install disc, yet still be able to use the OEM product key that I purchased with the laptop. I hope it's possible somehow.

Is is possible that I could do the fresh install using a WGA kit CD I obtained from Microsoft and utilize the laptop's OEM key to validate? Sony told me I'd have to use a retail key purchased elsewhere. I'm not sure if they have it right.

Thanks for your time and expertise. Smile

if ur OEM key is xp pro, and it has not been "activated" somewhere else other than ur org sony machine, then yes. Just make sure that u have on hand all necessary drivers before starting.

    cheers ...
