I just received a new Sager 5793. When i went to boot it up for the first time i got the message saying the windows did not shut down properly and asked if i wanted to start in safe mode.

If felt a little sluggish at first but now seems to be running good. im new to vista but i still feel that it can run faster.

i've been debating doing a clean install and getting new updated drivers for everything. Im feeling kinda lazy cause its going to be alot of work to reinstall everything but if it boosts performance it may be worth it.

I read somewhere that someone did a clean install and they got a boost out of it. Theres no bloatware on sagers but it may be nice to wipe all the old drivers and get the new up-to-date ones.

    Sager 5793
    C2duo T8300 2.4ghz
    Nvidia 9800m gts
    4 gb DDR2 ram
    320 gb 7200rpm hdd

    Thanks!!

have you added much - like games or programs? if not then it wont hurt as much doing a clean install.

me on the other hand - i have 9 games and over 70 programs that will need reinstalling :(

Mostly games which take forever to install, probably around 6-9 of them. Not so many programs, just the essential stuff like itunes, aim, ccleaner, office...

yeah thats okay, most of my programs were free from the net, so i have to find al lthe ones im using and redownload them ready for when vista gets reinstalled - this is taking ages

bt atleast with the games you have the disc and everything and dont have to hunt all over the net to find it again.

i would say go ahead, but downlaod the prograsm, drivers and first that way it will be a lot more simple updating everything as yo uwont have to search all over the place to get them.

A clean installation is far more better than updating.
but the complexity of a clean installation is the problem.

If possible and you have many time to do a clean install.
    That's better.

Might be worth just uninstalling the devices along with the drivers then reinstalling them with the new drivers maybe quicker than a fresh install, then tweaking windows. The topic thats pinned in this section is pretty good.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

I think im going to do the clean install. If it doesnt improve anything i will at least feel better in my mind that every thing is new and up to date.

Doing a clean install is the second thing I do to my laptops, right after confirming that all my software and hardware are correct.

Doing a clean install moves all your current stuff in Program Files and Users to a folder called Windows.old in the new install. I've reinstalled Vista many times and it just takes a bit to update it and install every program you need, along with drivers.
