Ok, I've been toying with Windows 7 all day (day off work FTW! :D ) and I have to say, it's Vista.

I actually forgot for a while that I wasn't using Vista, the differences are that small. For me there is NO difference in performance, Vista and Windows 7 perform just as awesomely as each other, NO difference in stability, both are rock solid, and NO difference in using them, everything is more or less the same.

For me, Windows 7 is Windows Vista with a new style taskbar mainly, and a few other tweaks here or there.

If you have problems with Vista and are looking for Windows 7 to be "Vista done right", then you will no doubt be pleased.

If however, like me, you have absolutely no problems with Vista whatsoever then you will be totally underwhelmed.

I can't think of a reason why someone having no problems with Vista would get Windows 7. Not one. Not a single one.

I'm running Windows 7 and Vista on the same machine, and 7 loads in about 1/3 the time. I also no longer have the annoying constant disk access that I had with Vista. Even with a clean install of Vista, it never loaded as fast as 7.

Hmm, I wonder what's different about my setup? Both Vista and Windows 7 are both equally blazing fast on my PC and Laptop?

Er, if Vista is already "blazing fast" than how can Windows 7 be any faster?

7 is definitely faster and lighter than Vista but other than that, I completely agree with you. The GUI updates are minimal at best, and not worth making a whole new OS for. If anything, 7 is what Vista should have been.

I thought vista was a great OS, and 7 is even better. It is basically vista perfected. There aren't going to be that many drastic, in your face amazing changes-- most of them are under the hood performance tweaks.

I think what you fail to realize is that 7 is blazing fast but also beta. Being blazing fast at this stage ind developement is impressive.

Well Windows 7 is a clean install so it will already have an advantage. I played around with Windows 7 on my Dell Latitude XT way before the Beta was released and it felt pretty good. But as long as you feed Vista enough RAM Vista is fast too.

For slower computers there will be more of a difference. If you have a Sager NP9262 it wont make an obvious difference.

But your right, worth spending money on a brand new OS? Probably not so far.

Probably a good thing that it is not such a huge leap away from Vista. Like Win 95 - Win 98. Much of the change was under the hood. But it was all good.

Actually, generally in this stage if development all optimizations are already in. Optimizations carry quite large risk of causing regressions so they are usually done earlier in development.
