I'm working on using a compact flash as a makeshift SSD, but need to reformat it as one single large partition. It happens to be a 16GB 133x-300x Transcend CF, and I can't seem to remove a 1.6GB partition for a clean XP install. Is there some program out there that can help me with this? I know that one is available for linux, but is there one for Windows?
I'm on the verge of buying an identical laptop to clone and resell, and would like to know if there are any better alternatives. I have a genuine copy of XP, and would like to get it installed ASAP.
Thanks all!

Does Windows disk management utility work on it?

When you say "clone and resell" do you mean that you're going to install one copy of XP to the first system, then clone that installation over to the second and run both simultaneously?
-
What I meant by that is buy a second identical working laptop with XP, clone the HDD in that second one onto the CF, then resell that second laptop. I do own a copy of Windows XP, so I imagine that this would be legal. That said, I'm clueless as hell when it comes to the ins and outs of operating system installation, so feel free to nudge me away from the cliff's edge.

Start from a Linux bootable cd, then use fdisk to nuke and pave the disk. Then Windows should install fine (assuming you're using the CF drive in an adapter or something similar, directly in the place of the hard drive). I'd recommend against the cloning thing, it'll be expensive and probably won't work.

Sorry, the only cliff I was trying to "push" you off of was the illegal/unlicensed OS copy cliff; however, if you're just cloning an installation from one media (hdd) to another (CF) for use on the same machine for which the OS was originally licensed, then there's no cliff to get pushed off of.

gparted....

Thanks everyone. I went ahead and decided to install ubuntu instead of xp, and the install disk fixed everything right up. As a first time linux user, this'll be a bit of an adventure, but that's a good thing
Thanks for the advice guys. -
Good luck; it'll be both fun and frustrating, but if you're patient you'll prevail. Just remember to always keep in mind that Linux is not Windows and going from one to the other requires a fairly large change in your mindset.
