Compaq Armada 7380DMT won't boot.

So I have this compaq that runs Windows 2000. Well, when I first got it, I tried to install Windows XP on it. So I started to format the hard drive to install the new operating system, but it kept freezing at 7%. So I turned it off and tried it again. It froze at 7% again so then I turned it off and left it alone for about a month. Well I finally got a Windows 2000 operating disk and decided to try to install an operating system yet again. However, this time it won't do anything. So first it says "65536 kb ok." Then, it just flashes an underscore. It will not do anything else. Now my diagnosis (and I am very far from a computer specialist) is that it either deleted the operating system or it screwed up the boot process. I have tried to boot the computer using a disk, but it will not work. So, does anyone have any idea what is wrong? Oh, by the way, the screen saver works. The screen goes blank after about 10 minutes. Thanks

 

Have you checked your hard drive?Are you confident that your hard drive isn't dying?After all is it worth the trouble to try and revive such a computer?

 

No. I'm not sure how to do that. I'm not that great when it comes to laptops. What should I do?
