    Hey guys,

Recently a friend of mine installed Daemon Tools Lite on my notebook. I'd never heard of the software, only to figure out later that it's used for illegal gaming.

I am an advocate of anti-piracy and always buy original CDs of games. So I decided to uninstall Daemon Tools Lite and also the CD image file that came with it for the game I of the Dragon.

I also ran a System Restore to two days before my friend installed Daemon Tools Lite on my notebook.

I am just wondering whether this software, or the CD image that i installed with it, came with any links to hidden folders I may have not deleted???

I know that it installed spdt.sys driver, which I have also removed using a removal software.

Other than that driver, what other hidden files/folders should I search for related to Daemon Tools Lite and the image file, which I may not have not deleted even if I uninstalled both?

Can someone please tell me if any exist, and where exactly they are in my drives?

I am desperate in deleting any trace of that stupid software on my notebook.

So far my notebook has not experienced any drastic problems, but I've read that installing Daemon Tools may mess up burning CDs on my normal disc drive since it created a new one.

Please help me. I'd appreciate replies...

it's not stupid software. Daemon Tools is used to mount .iso images
it doesn't have to be used for illegal gaming.
there are a lot of good legal stuff that you can do with Daemon Tools

First of all, Daemon Tools is just a software used to load ISO files as some of us prefer to backup our CDs/DVDs as a whole ISO file to store on our hard drives. It's completely legal software, though most people tend to abuse it.

To get back to your problem, there should be no hidden folders or spyware when it was installed (unless it wasn't obtained from the main site). It shouldn't mess with your normal disc drive either as it just creates a virtual drive.

Deamon Tools is one of the best apps to mount ISO files.
If you have it, keep it, you might need it....don't like game,
    throw it out.

    Cheers...

agreed, daemon tools is good. i use it to image copy dvds for backup, game dvds can be copied and mounted so that i dont have to carry around the originals (my original crysis dvd does not play properly in my laptop drive), and i use it to check home movie dvds before i burn them. you have a car? very useful, you can drive to work or go to rob a bank

yeah, just leave it, like it's title suggest, it's lite, so its not taking up much room... and it's not *meant* for illegal use, just like the internet itself isn't meant for illegal use

I just spent 4 hours configuring Backtrack 4 onto a live bootable USB with persistent changes and Nessus server/client configuration /various apps plugins, and you might not expect it but that's being used for legal purposes... no one is going to come across Daemon Tools Lite on your laptop and think anything of it. It's probably most actually used by people who rip their own DVD's onto their laptops to make a movie library, and then use Daemon Tools to mount the DVD image to watch the movie.

To the OP: From Daemon Tools themselves: http://forum.daemon-tools.cc/f26/how-remove-daemon-tools-v4-6992/

How to remove...and I thought I was paranoid having games that I "bought" on my laptop...have it rigged to self destruct...

And then there's the time I let MS online support have control of my desktop when I was using a VistaLoader activated Vista install...twas a bit nervous...lol...and then "Microsoft" showed up on my caller ID an hour later...I almost died...it was a service follow up call...lol...

Ok guys. Thanks for all the clarification and advice.

I'm not paranoid or anything. I just read a lot of negative posts regarding Daemon Tools on other sites and simply don't want to get into the problems which other people have had regarding he software.

I completely understand now that it's not only used for illegal gaming, but for mounting disc images. Thanks...

Actually I have run into a game or two that didn't want to play when its disc was in the actual drive but there was also a vritual disk drive.

That said, Daemon tools is truly useful. All of my windows disks and applications are saved as ISOs and the originals stored away safely.

if your interested in running games off your pc legally without switching disks there is a company called direct2drive. its a legal company that sells games you download and work without a cd. there is also another company called steam that does this as well. there are no tricks and its fully supported by the publishers.
