Hey guys I got a little issue with my notebook. I'm using an Inspiron 1520 with Vista Home Premium. I've been using XP for a few months and I decided that I wanted to upgrade to Vista. So I uninstalled XP and installed Vista and it ran great for about a day. The other day my mom was using the computer and she told me a message poped up saying it needed to restart to install system updates and had a 4 minute countdown. She said after the computer restarted it went to a screen that gave the options of Starting in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, restore to a later known good configuartion and start windows normally. When we'd select start windows normally, windows would attempt to start the computer would crash. On startup a blue screen would come up with some writing but it would go off too fast to read what it said, then the BIOS would start and finally windows would attempt to start and then it'd go right back to that screen asking to start in safe mode, w/ networking etc etc.

The only way I could fix the issue was by using the recover option on the OS disc Dell sent. It fixed it but I kept my computer on overnight, last night to download a program and when I got up this morning the computer was doing the same thing. So again I fixed it the same way and now I'm worried of when it'll happen again. I'm going to turn off the automatic updates until I find a fix. I will reinstall the OS but I have a large file I need to finish dling before I do so.

Does anyone know what's causing this problem?

    Thanks,
    -Taylor

You should disable automatic rebbots when Windows crashes. It's somewhere under advanced system settings (startup and recovery?). The option to disable auto-reboots should also be available in that "F8" boot menu (safe mode, etc.). Reading the BSOD might help you to determine what's going on, but don't count on it...
