I just got a new laptop and I have been looking around for software that will protect against viruses, intrusion (firewalls & encyption), and system crashing. Thus far I have come up with a few programs that get good reviews. They are Utility Suite "V Communication System Suite 5", System Restore "First Defense - ISR", Antivurs Suite "PC-Cillin Internet Security Suite 2004", Firewall "ZoneAlarm 4.5" (which is free), and finally Encryption "Steganos Safe 5". So my question is how much security do I really need? Will just one of these do the job? Am I being a bit overzealous??

You can get a free antivirus software and firewall from Computer Associates. I would suggest this route, along with running windows update, to protect yourself. Of course a secure windows password is a given.
