    Computer doesnt shut down completely.

    So yeah, when i try to shut down my laptop it sometimes doesnt shut down the actual computer after it has shutted down windows.. i think its windows related but im unsure... im using Windows XP SP3... Its only sometimes.. anyone of you guys have an idea? i dont bother format :(

    everytime when I'm affected this way it's some unwanted guest onboard. Did you check you laptop for malware and viruses?

    Hmm.. no.. im gonna do that but i dont get it.. it technally shuts down windows but not the computer

    so maybe it's happen always after running some application?
    or maybe some problem with energy saving. I have this once on desktop pc. I have to change energy saving compliance to previous version. I have vista right now and I don't remember exactly where that was.

    Well all the programs gets shutted down.. maybe youre right tho im unsure

    Does anything show up in your event logs that's related to the failure to shut down completely?

    I had an XP installation did that one time. For six months I think, it would sit on the shutting down screen for like 30 minutes. Since I rarely turn off the computer, it sat on my to do list forever. I think it was after a failed update, but I never got around to fixing it.

    Come to think of it, it probably still gets stuck on the shutdown screen. Time to check again.................
