So yeah, when i try to shut down my laptop it sometimes doesnt shut down the actual computer after it has shutted down windows.. i think its windows related but im unsure... im using Windows XP SP3... Its only sometimes.. anyone of you guys have an idea? i dont bother format![]()

everytime when I'm affected this way it's some unwanted guest onboard. Did you check you laptop for malware and viruses?

Hmm.. no.. im gonna do that but i dont get it.. it technally shuts down windows but not the computer

so maybe it's happen always after running some application?
or maybe some problem with energy saving. I have this once on desktop pc. I have to change energy saving compliance to previous version. I have vista right now and I don't remember exactly where that was. -

Does anything show up in your event logs that's related to the failure to shut down completely?

I had an XP installation did that one time. For six months I think, it would sit on the shutting down screen for like 30 minutes. Since I rarely turn off the computer, it sat on my to do list forever. I think it was after a failed update, but I never got around to fixing it.
Come to think of it, it probably still gets stuck on the shutdown screen. Time to check again................. -
