I appologize in advance if this is not in the right place. I"m relatively new and this is a big problem.
I came back from my trip around Europe and my desktop told me to choose the boot system. When putting the windows 7 disk in, it said i had no previous places i could restore my computer to. I asked my dad's friend to help me out (Since he knows his way around a computer- me not so much) and we figured out that my harddrive died on me. I got a new one, a Western Digital 1TB 7200rpm, and he installed windows 7 and gave it back to me. I turned it on, and it was perfect. All my pictures from the trip were gone, but the computer ran fine. I installed kaspersky's antivirus and updated it. While updating it, I opened two tabs. I typed in mozilla.com, and apple.com, trying to download mozilla firefox and itunes. While loading the pages the computer froze. The keyboard and mouse light went off. I waited 15 minutes and nothing changed. I pressed the restart button the first time
1. It went to the motherboard screen that it always goes to while booting, then to the next screen it usually goes to... then back to the first one and it stayed there for over 15 minutes... I pressed the restart button again
2. Just the blue motherboard screen,
3. Same thing.
I tried turning it off, but the power off button did not work. I then manually turned off the computer.
While trying to power it on after that there was no output to my computer screen. The keyboard, monitor, and mouse didn't work, the off button and restart button did not work. The only thing that works is the disk drive.
No idea on what to do. Right now my desktop is a heavy mass taking up space. I need this for the following weeks in school.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Please post what your computer is, a big box desk model or a notebook then tell us as much about it as you can. For a desk computer knowing the motherboard is handy as well as how much and what kind of memory. Knowing the video card is usefull.
It sounds like your computer is dieing. It almost sounds like a power supply problem, however, every power supply I have had die on me it just quit and nothing, not hard drive or any power to the mobo.
Edit: Don't give up on the HD that you pulled out. Try and mount it as a second drive and after boot up try to access it and see if you can get your pictures back. Worth a try. PS, you could even mount it in a friends machine to see if you can get your lost data back. -
ram: not sure
motherboard: asus p5q
graphics card: nVidia Geforce GTS 250 1gb -
it's a desktop
I exchanged my powersupply not too long ago, would the new 1tb take up so much energy that 700watts would be too little? -

Open your box and see if it is crapped up with lots of dust and lint. I take my desk machine outside and use a compressor and blow everything out as the collection of stuff causes it to run hot. While you are in there get a magnifying glass and go over the mother board looking for anything that looks burned or shorted out (this is while it is unplugged) If you find that then your motherboard is toast and needs replaced. Make sure the motherboard is plugged in. You say your hard drive is truning but the moboard is not powering up. Make sure your vid card is set in tight in its slot, pull it out ane reseat it and even try it in another slot. Pull out your memory and reset it. If you do the cleaning and reset everything and make sure it is plugged in tight and it still dosen't work then it is time to save up for another machine.
