So, this is my first time dealing with any form of Microsoft Outlook. I have some questions regarding its' use.

Can I register/link my Yahoo email account to Outlook, or is it restricted to Exchange, POP3, and IMAP? Or am I just misunderstanding the entire purpose of this functionality?

The bigger goal, for me, is to have a more reliable email account. I've been dealing with some issues w/ Yahoo and I'm wondering if Outlook can help me out? Thanks!

You will have to see if yahoo supports pop3 / imap.

What issues are you having with yahoo?

Well, I've had complaints about people not receiving my emails. Also, I have run into issues receiving e-mails w/ attachments. I find that people have to send e-mails w/ attachments a second or third time before I can get them.

So, are you saying that POP3/IMAP would serve as a "bridge" between my Yahoo account and my Outlook account? Thanks.

you can download a program called ypops that will allow you to sync yahoo with outlook, although it will be pop3.

Yahoo recently did that to my grandmother. She had similar problems, which were complicated by everyone she emailed not getting her email for 24-48 hours.

She has Office 2007. It does not matter if you use O2007, O2003, or something else...the fault is Yahoo's.

Her problems seemed to have disappeared, but I'm going to eventually move her email to a different service provider because we're going to jump ship on Yahoo's email service.

Well, I'm glad to know that I'm not Yahoo's only target. I've talked to some people about this and they were pretty skeptical of my problems...

EDIT: What I'm thinking about doing now is creating a GMail account and then linking it to Outlook 2007 via POP3. Does that sound viable?

Has anyone ever experienced similar problems w/ GMail? Thanks.

I have read about ypops, but the "approved" method is to pay Yahoo for POP account service. With that you can configure the account with any email client that supports POP, which is virtually all of them, including Outlook.

What are the specific issues you are having with Yahoo? How do you know that they are Yahoo issues and not issues with the way you are accessing the email? The main problem I have read about with Yahoo mail is that it is so widely used by spammers that many ISPs simply block all email from Yahoo.com, so those using those other ISPs never see any Yahoo.com email. There's a couple of ways around that. None of which are free. You gets what you pays for. There's also the new ymail.com and rocketmail.com domains Yahoo recently opened up.

Well I detailed the problems I was having in an earlier post.

Would I have to pay for POP3 service if I used a GMail account as well? Thanks.

You only need POP service if you intend to access the email via a POP client (such as Outlook or Thunderbird); you do not need POP service if the email is accessed over a web interface via a browser.

I found this link while looking here. Yahoo Plus is on the email account, so if you have multiple yahoo email accounts, each account would need to be "plus-ed" seperately.

GMail is completely free, and superior to yahoo & hotmail, don't waste your time trying to solve issues with yahoo, sign up with Gmail, set-up your email client and send & receive emails with no problems..simple!

gMail is easy and free. I have that as well. It will do POP or IMAP. Outlook can do both.

    Is gMail really still Beta???

    Superior to hotmail?
I guess if one likes a ton of spam then it will be superior to hotmail. I don't, so hotmail is waaayyy better than Gmail. The only thing Gmail may have over hotmail is storage..and I don't need much for e-mails. And hotmail is free as well.

Well, thanks for the advice everyone. =)

I went ahead and created a GMail account and linked it to Outlook 2007. So far, everything works great.

Spam isn't sent to you based on which provider you use, and what reason do you have to believe GMail address attract more spam?

As for Gmail, I get zero spam in my inbox, as any spam which makes its way to my email address, is picked up by gmails inbuilt spam controls and placed in the spam folder.

The reason gmail is superior, is its clean, fast, free pop3, gmail notify, and allows for more settings to be customised.

Hotmail is generally used by teenagers, and people who are new to the web and just stick with everything Microsoft.

What were u using before Gmail?

Edit: I want to post a print screen of my Gmail's spam folder but I can't..there are kids on the forum. I'll spend the entire night blocking everything out.

makaveli72 - You seem to be confused by this discussion, as if YOUR GMail address has endless amounts of spam, that is due to who has your email address, from when you sign up to services, or whoever you supply it too.

You must understand the basic reasons as to why a person gets spam sent to them?

What were u using before Gmail?

And when did u sign up for a Gmail account?...Because when I did within days I got a ton of spam.....But as I said, I haven't been using Gmail regularly...And now I see they've added features..so I guess they got better w/ their spam filter as well.

And aren't they still in Beta?

Well before Gmail, I used my ISP email address & had a domain - I did use yahoo.co.uk for signing up to web forums and services, and they were ok, just prefer Gmails interface and features.

They changed it from gmail, to googlemail and opened up sign-ins to everyone, think it still says beta, but I think that is in case they encounter any problems, then they have a good excuse (quite smart)...but from what I can see, Gmail has the less problems out of all email providers.

I've never got a spam on my gMail, and very few on my Yahoo. I got hundreds a day on my Verizon email before I finally dropped it.

I suspect that the Verizon accounts list was hacked or sold from the inside. |(

    LOL

Yeah, I have Verizon but never use the E-Mail due to the horrible interface (though they have improved it-finally) and the poor spam control.

I have never installed any software any ISP provided. When I had Verizon.net email I accessed it via Thunderbird and Outlook.
