    Conexant HD driver update Killed my Audio

    Last night Windows update notified of new Conexant Audio Drivers.. i updated & shut down my comp & went to sleep.

    today when i turn ON my comp.. the audio is gone... No hardware detected..

    ALSO .. when i access the Device manager ...each time i click on Audio Properties .. the Device manager doesnt respond & i have to end task..

    So i cant even ROLLBACK ..as I CANT ACCESS DEVICE MANAGER


    Pls help my Deaf & dumb Laptop

    Few minutes back there was another Conexant update.. but its installation Failed.

    error code: WindowsUpdate_80070103

    The Windows Update has just screwed up my Sound

    Is it cause of Vista SP1 RC Refresh?

    Same thing happened to me. Simple to fix though. Go to the HP support site and download the latest sound drivers.

    I never download device drivers from Microsoft.

    When Windows Update tells me there are some, I hide those updates.

    I always get driver updates from the device manufacturer, not from Microsoft, nor from the PC manufacturer.

    I had the same issue with my HP (see sig). I simply rolled back the driver in device manager.

    Oh, yes. My computer sound died with that same problem. I thought that since it was a computer update, finding a computer update wouldn't help, but the HP support site download worked great. TA-DA ^^.

    System restore might help if you cant roll back through device manager

    i rolled back problem fixed! .. damn and i thought Windows Update was reliable..
    Shouldn't i sue them? hehe
