I have been reading many posts about this subject and have gotten more confused than before.

I have an Acer 8930 with Vista pre-installed, so I do not have the original Vista disk.

I will receive the Windows 7 disk via the free upgrade program, but want to do a clean install instead of an upgrade.

Can someone confirm if this is possible or as I read somewhere before do I have to do the "Vista trick". That is, do a clean install of Win7 without entering the key and then upgrade to Win7 with the key?

    Thanks in advance.

clean install can be done with a bootable disc
upgrade / custom / new can be done without the disk (setup files on hd) - provided, you can't / won't be able to format the partition. it will do a clean install but you'll have a "windows.old" folder. which you may delete afterwards.

keys can be entered anytime after the installation

Thanks for the reply. After reading my post again I must admit it was still a bit too early for me. Not too clear. I have edited the post and hope it makes more sense now.
