I am considering giving vista a shot. I own a retail copy of home premium (was a gift) and was wondering how my system should handle vista and if i should even bother upgrading.

My specs are in my sig.

I think your system can run Vista just fine, but it is possible that you would loose some gaming performance. Only one way to find out, it doesn't have to be that way and you have plenty of toys to game on anyway ;)

If you decide to give it a go, remember to check that ALL your programs are compatible with Vista.

When I was upgrading my dad's computer, I forgot to remove a zone-alarm version that wasn't compatible. Result: BSOD upon startup. Only way to fix was to roll back to XP, and uninstall zone-alarm.

i had it installed in the past... and had trouble coming out of sleep mode and playing video files. When i watched anime... the sound would lag from the picture.

Do you know if this type of problem is fixed by now? or any ideas why?

yer sistem will run vista just fine.

although you'd notice much snappier performance with 3gigs of ram...

    (sad huh?)

i hate vista with a passion.

Your computer is fine for Vista...I don't even think you'll notice a gaming difference from my experience. I hate Vista, but I hate XP, OSX and Linux more :D :D

It probably wasn't vista. You just didn't have the right codecs or had your processor doing too much. Watching a movie needs free ram a processing speed so if you were say converting a movie while watching it. You'd get that problem. Or you just downloaded from a bad source.
