Keep getting black screens of death on my Gateway p7805u x9100 cpu 9800m gts 1gb gpu running Windows 8 Ultimate.

Was thinking they were the Temps and after reapplying thermal paste temps are much lower but I still get random Black screens of death while playing Dota 2 after 10-15 minutes.

Random black screens while playing Skyrim as well.

I've checked Temps (fine below 70 even under gaming stress). I've tried undervolting and underclocking the Gpu below stock settings and still Black screens. I feel like tossing my Laptop on the floor from the frustration.

I don't think it's the power source as I tried with another and I still got black screens of death so I returned it. Please help me return my gaming laptop to a playable state.

Have you tried backing down the driver? When did you start to exhibit the problem? After a drivers update? Also try it without the power source and see if that stops it. If it does at least you can narrow down the problems. Black Screens are not always related to thermal temps. Sometimes it is voltage problems as well.

I'm going to try backing to down to some older drivers and see if that does it. I tried unplugging the power while gaming and no black screen and game drops to unplayable fps since the clocks drop dramatically. Haven't tried playing for extended periods of time on battery. The problem started around August-September. If it was a voltage problem, what would be the solution?

You're welcome to try reseating the GPU, since you feel comfortable enough opening it up to repaste it. But I concur with playing around with the drivers first - especially since the occurrence is only during gaming.

Sounds like a driver issue to me. I am thinking GPU drivers but could be a driver conflict.

Do you have MS Silverlight? That program caused my G73 to have a similar issue.

What audio drivers are you running? At one point, my audio drivers were conflicting with my graphics drivers causing black screens.

As others have mentioned try a few drivers first. Are you overclocked? If so reset to original specs. If not then make sure you have no other warnings in the Device Manager area and that your drivers for your audio/etc are up to date.

Also try to prop your laptop up and off the surface to see if airflow can be a problem. I know these things sounds silly at times but I have done all the things I am suggesting to you.

Can you try another power source/brick to power up your laptop? Worse case if go out and buy one and return it if that does not resolve your issues.

Can you lower your game settings to see if that will allow you to play the game while unplugged and see if you are still black screening.

Thank you for your suggestions. I tried playing on battery and had 0 black screens so I figured it was the power source not pumping enough juice. I edited my Vbios and lowered the voltage and now I get 0 black screens on stock settings. I am going to order a new Power Supply eventually so I can set up my overclocking again. ++rep
