I'm running into a problem with what looks like a ghost ubs drive connecting and disconnecting.
Every time the laptop boots up, it would make a beeping sound. It turns out its the device connect/disconnect sound. It plays every couple of seconds like someone is plugging and unplugging usb drive. The problem is there is no usb drive plugged in to begin with hence the ghost usb drive.
Every so often it would ask if I'd like to format E:/. Clicking on format E would get an error because the drive doesn't exist.
Under device manager, it looks like there's a E:/ under the Removable Disk Tab and a generic Disk Drive under the Disk Drive tab.
Ever few seconds the device manager would refresh like there was new hardware change.
I've tried doing a system restore but that didn't work.
I've tried disabled and uninstalling the E:/ and Disk Drive under the device manager but that doesn't work either.
Any solution short of a reformat would be appreciated.

Can you open it up and make sure all connections are secure? I had this happen with my laptop every time I moved the lid, and it turned out my web cam connection was loose.

Well the problem is it's not my laptop to begin with. I"d rather try a reinstall of Windows than open it up.

Maybe a micro sd card reader?
What is the make and model of your laptop? -
It's a Toshiba Satellite. Don't recall the exact model number ATM.
I'll check that out later today.
If its the sd card reader, how would I fix it? -
It appears to be the SD card reader. When I plugged in a SD card the sound disappears but the card doesn't show up as a removable drive.
Reinstalling the drivers hopefully it works..
