    Hello,
Are there any software that is vista compatible that allows conversion from an avi file to ipod video format?
    Thanks.

Awhile ago I use to rip my dvd's into my desktop and then convert it to mp4 so I could use it on my ipod. I used videora ipod converter for this... so that might work? It was free

How do you use ImTOO for files, I've only used it to rip DVDs to AVI or iPod MP4.

A good (and most importantly, free) video/music encoding program with presets for ipods, zunes, vcd, dvd players and various other devices is MediaCoder. It's got wide support for a large variety of codecs, is pretty fast and handles batch encoding. Alot of encoding programs are good at encoding TO another format but tend to fall flat when encoding from some of the more obscure ones. Mediacoder supports pretty much everything you'd come across:

It only supports some of them as inputs though (like real and quicktime), but that's not a problem if you're just converting things for your iPod.

    Here's the link: http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net
