Ok, I got some older games on my computer that I want to back up (some I lost the old CD), because I really want to make room on my HD.

To start, I got an old ISO that I made when I had C&C3. The goal for me is to get it small enough so I could put it on a DVD-R. Some other games I have are bigger than 5GB (some like 8-10GB).

Is there a way this is possible?

I added the file lastnight to WinRAR archive, and selected RAR in archive format, and DVD+R: 4481 mb under Split to volumes, bytes.

It created 2 RAR files, naming them C&C3.part1 and C&C3.part2.

The size of the original file is 5.19GB. The size of Part 1 is 4.37GB, and Part 2 is 615MB.

The RAR's look identical, both showing the same size ISO.

Only difference is in Part 2, there is a <-- next to the ISO.

Are these files the same? Can I just put the smaller RAR on a DVD, or do I have to put both of them on?

If I understand you correctly, you can separate the files. However, to obtain the ISO back, you will need both files in the same folder before extracting.

Your best bet is to get some dual layer DVD-R's

Why don't you get a dual layer dvd-r? They go up to 8gb if I remember correctly. But you can put the rar files on different mediums. You'll just need to put the other dvd in when winrar ask about the second file and point it to that.

Sorry guys... copying games is against the DMCA, and NBR doesn't allow talk about how to do things like that. Thread closed.
